In Hugo’s native Ecuador, a ‘minga’ is when the community comes together for a common purpose, often to construct a building or a public work. What Hugo loves about architecture is the collaboration and collective work that happens between the architect and client.

From Quito to Seattle.

Minga Architecture works between Seattle, Washington and Quito, Ecuador. Hugo started his career in Quito, Ecuador, receiving a degree in architecture from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador in 2005. After spending 14 years in Seattle and obtaining his Architect License, Hugo wanted to share what he had learned about architecture and construction in the U.S. with his Ecuadorian community while providing quality design and modeling services to clients and partners in Seattle and surrounding areas.

Hugo Carrión Berru, RA, AIA

Hugo Carrión Berrú is a Registered Architect in the State of Washington whose passion for design began with a high school technical drawing class in his native Quito, Ecuador. After graduating with a Bachelor’s in Architecture from the Universidad Católica del Ecuador, Hugo launched his career in the design-build arena, managing multi-family and single-family projects. In 2009, Hugo and his wife relocated to Seattle, marking the beginning of a diverse, hands-on journey through the American construction and architecture industries. Driven by a proactive, positive mindset and a keen eye for anticipating complex project challenges, Hugo built his expertise from the ground up—initially working as a carpenter, serving as an ADA inspector for the U.S. Postal Service, and returning fully to architectural practice in 2013. Along the way, he furthered his technical skills with Construction Management studies and a Digital Design and Fabrication certificate. Hugo officially earned his Washington State Architecture License in 2022. Minga Architecture is the ultimate realization of his dream: a platform to merge his extensive U.S. experience with the spirit of his Ecuadorian roots. While Hugo’s broad portfolio encompasses mixed-use developments, adaptive reuse, and commercial or educational tenant improvements, his true passion lies in residential design. He thrives on the deeply personal approach that single-family homes require, collaborating intimately with clients to synthesize their unique needs into functional, welcoming spaces. Outside of architecture, Hugo is dedicated to community building and family life. He and his wife are proudly raising two smart, beautiful boys, and they love staying connected to their roots by gathering with fellow Ecuadorians to share traditional dishes and games. In his spare time, you can find Hugo sketching, playing or watching soccer, and exploring new travel destinations.

BIM Modeler

Christian is project designer and BIM modeler passionate about thoughtful residential design and the impact architecture can have on the urban environment. He believes every project, from a single-family home to a multifamily development, should contribute positively to the city and the community around it. With a strong attention to detail and a collaborative mindset, Christian supports the design process through advanced BIM modeling, coordination, and project development. Graduated from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture and later earning a Master’s Degree in Urbanism from the same institution, Christian has continued expanding his expertise through specialization studies in BIM Modeling and Management with Revit. He is currently pursuing further specialization in BIM visual programming and automation, focused on improving workflows, efficiency, and project coordination. Originally from Ambato, Ecuador, Christian combines technical precision with a deep appreciation for family life, continuous learning, and meaningful design. His work is driven by the belief that architecture should create functional, welcoming, and sustainable spaces that enrich everyday living.
